A Photographer's Emotions

April 23, 2016

I have to post one more from the fashion shoot I did the other night because it is probably my favorite. When I was preparing for this session, I had no idea where to begin, I didn't know what direction I wanted to go, and I was SO nervous. I knew I had this awesome skirt, a beautiful model, and... NOTHING. As I drove around looking for a location I happened to look up this street and saw this row of perfectly manicured trees with some pretty white blooms on them. After driving past it a couple of times, an image popped into my head and I knew exactly what I wanted. I studied like crazy the week prior trying to learn as much as I could about fashion and posing. I knew I didn't want to look like a crazy photographer who had no clue what I was doing! I always get more nervous to photograph women because I want them to truly love the images I capture of them.

As women, I feel as though many of us are critical of ourselves and we try to stay behind the camera instead of in front of it.  If we could only see how beautiful we truly are and embrace it. Don't shy away from the camera, but get in front of it. If not for ourselves, do it for our children. How many moms out there have had a little fashion shoot of their own in the past year? How many of you have beautiful portraits of yourself either alone or with your children hanging on your walls? Do you have a beautiful album with these portraits that your kids can hold onto forever? If we don't ever step in front of the camera, we will leave only memories that fade over time for our families to remember us by. I too am terrible at getting in front of the camera which is why I challenge you as well as myself to "exist in photos" this year.
