I'm not going to lie, I have loved this change in pace and having my kids home. I feel like the Universe decided to tell people in the world as a whole to SLOOOOOW down and remember what matters.
I feel so grateful to have a natural light studio where I can control all of the conditions, who comes in + out, and I know that it is cleaned thoroughly before and after each session. This is something that I have always done and will continue to do even after the Coronavirus is under control.
This experience has been one for the books, but it pushed me to create those schedules for our family that I've been wanting to for a long time, but didn't know how because we were running like chickens with our heads cut off. It has pushed me to leave my phone at home and go for a walk with the kids.
I see how so many people acted out in fear and it brought out the worst in them. The fighting in the grocery stores, stockpiling food, and overwhelming the food industry with a sudden spike in demand. It helped me to realize that although we weren't as prepared as we could have been, we will survive.
I did get anxiety over toilet paper which is funny to me, but when we were getting low I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get any. At the time I am typing this post, I'm down to 8 rolls and still in limbo. I think that although there are other options, this is one necessity that we have always been able to control and not had to worry about to be honest. As one of my friends put it... "It is something the people can control when they are in fear." Makes so much sense!
After all of this is over I don't know if we will be ready for a set schedule again or if we will miss it because it opened our eyes to more important things in life. We get so caught up in the running + busyness of life that we forget to take a breath and be thankful for the small things as often as we should.
The good that I choose to take from this situation is to slowly stock up on things that we would need should a major disaster occur, to make our new schedule a habit because I've had the ability and time to choose one that will be sustainable through the busy season, and to spend time with my kids each day.... completely present.
I was talking with my mother-in-law on the phone the other day and she said, "Spend the time with your kids because you only have 18 summers." Wow!! When she put it that way, it sounds like so little time. Time flies and boy I know we were running too fast.
Here's to new goals and new habits set because the universe told me to stop and look around..... take a walk with your kids + leave the phone at home. Call a friend you haven't talked to in a while. Let go of what you can't control and wait. Snuggle up on the couch with some popcorn and just enjoy the slow pace of life and friends I hope you do the same!
