Photographing the Mayor's Family | Southern Utah Photographer

January 13, 2020

I couldn't have been more excited + nervous when the Mayor called me to photograph her baby! I mean, for our small town this felt like celebrity status to me. I had been an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce so I had met her before, but boy, never in such a personal way.

If there's one thing I can say after meeting their sweet little family it would be how kind they are.

Maile and Jayson met when they were set up on a blind date. They went out the night Trump got elected and as Maile was analyzing the data from the election, she loved that Jayson could have an intelligent conversation with her about it + he loved that she had her life together.

Who knew that this blind date would turn into what it has + I couldn't be happier for them both. They are some of the sweetest, most down to earth people I have met.

I know I say it a lot, but I honestly have met so many wonderful people doing what I do and these two are certainly no exception. They have the most beautiful baby girl and just like you and I, they have all the same fears we do when we take our child home for the first time.

We joked about how great it might be if they came home with an instruction manual to give us a little guidance, but it is always so interesting to see how natural instinct kicks in.

A belief I used to have was the fact that doctors and nurses knew how to better care for a child and I quickly learned that although they do have the skills to help them through different things, we are all in the same boat.

Jayson is an Ophthalmic Surgeon and trying to figure it out just like the rest of us. Each kid is so different and figuring out their personalities + what makes them tick feels like a process that will continue on until they figure it out and chase their dreams.

I do think when we become parents and we are suddenly responsible to keep another human alive we just figure it out! Things we used to question before having them are suddenly answered and while feeling like we don't know what to do, we act.

Mama brought this darling Christmas outfit and her wedding veil along to photograph her sweet girl with. You guys know that I love when you bring something special to include in your photos. It makes them mean that much more when you have not only the tangible item, but the most precious people photographed with it to carry through generations to come.

Photographing these special moments for you brings me so much joy. I just want to thank you so, so much for being here!
